Clean up your office—and help Creative Pitch!

I’m betting that most of us (especially if we are artists or parents) have lots of art supplies that we don’t use. Now you have a chance to clean up your office… and help out local schools: donate them to Creative Pitch.

This Chicago-based organization collects art supplies (new or used in good condition) and donates them to local art teachers in need. The reality is that school budgets don’t always allow for basic art supplies—many teachers pay out of their own pocket for necessary supplies.

Let’s help them out by cleaning up our offices (or kids’ playrooms) and donating our unused art supplies. I have been participating in Creative Pitch for many years now, and I’m always delighted to receive an email from a happy art teacher.

Creative Pitch is currently seeking the following items:

  • markers
  • crayons
  • colored pencils
  • paper
  • scissors
  • stock photo/illustration books

Have items to donate? Email to inform them of your donation items and/or to set up a drop off time. (NO OFFICE SUPPLIES, PLEASE.)

What I learned on my summer vacation: Part 8

Part of a series of post-Creative Freelancer Conference postings:

8. Polish up your presentation skills with strong content and confident delivery:

  1. Focus needs to be on the client: their issues, problems, situation
  2. Your capabilities should resonate with their issues: how can you solve their problem?
  3. Build/maintain steady client contact prior to presentation (phone calls, emails)
  4. Build an outline (3-5 bullet points): use active verbs, simple terms, short copy
  5. Rehearse: memorize the most important points, consider what questions may come up
  6. When presenting, engage the audience, be authentic: use humor or relate a story to the content

Pitch in and help a budding artist

pencilsHere at the bright spot, we love to talk about local organizations that are doing good for the community—especially ones that we support. Creative Pitch collects donations of paper and art supplies from companies and individuals and distributes them to local teachers in need. (see what they need here) I’ve donated materials to Creative Pitch for several years and it’s always heartwarming to receive “thank you” emails from grateful teachers and students.

You can also help them out by making a monetary donation—or for something a bit more lively, head over to the Creative Pitch Spring Fundraiser on Thursday at Lumen in the West Loop.

The Chicago Green Festival™ comes to Navy Pier this Saturday and Sunday. You’ll have the chance to meet 350+ local and national green businesses, or listen to one of the many well-known speakers.

I’ll be volunteering Sunday morning at the Creative Pitch booth to help out this great local organization.
