What I learned on my summer vacation: Part 1

Part of a series of post-Creative Freelancer Conference postings:

1. Focus on my business “voice” and make sure it shines through in all of my marketing efforts: online, offline and social media.

I’ve decided the best way for me to do this is to write a description of “my voice” and post it on the wall in my office. This way, I can easily check in while I’m working on my marketing materials, posting to my blog or tweeting.

What I learned on my summer vacation: Prologue

CFClogoReturning back to work in chilly Chicago after this year’s Creative Freelancer Conference in San Diego, I just had to get pen to paper — err, fingers to keyboard — to document all the fantastic business and creative ideas, inspirations and brainstorms that happened. Yes, it’s partially self-serving (I need to write this stuff down or I’ll forget) but hopefully my musings can spark conversations or ideas for other creative folks. I’ll be posting all week as I sneak in time between work.

A HUGE shoutout goes to the CFC organizers, Ilise and Peleg from Marketing Mentor and Bryn and her gals from HOW Magazine — not to mention all the awesome speakers (who I will be calling out in my posts). Thanks for another great conference!

Other CFCers out there? Please share your post-conference thoughts. Leave a comment!

Greening up our greetings!

recycled_symbol_grWe are pleased to announce that Greetings by Lidia Varesco Design now uses biodegradable plastic sleeves to package our cards!

While we currently use paper with some recycled content (which we “recycle” from our printer’s leftover scraps), we are moving towards using all 100% post-consumer recycled papers. We already offer a 100% recycled envelope with our Tall Notecard Sets.

Buy some of our greener cards this weekend at the Chicago Indie Collective at Oakbrook Center.

We want you to be creative too: mix and match cards from our entire collection to create your own greeting card set. Stop by our booth at the Chicago Indie Collective at Oakbrook Center this weekend to peruse and buy!

Good business advice from the Italians

Today, August 15th, is the Italian holiday Ferragosto. Traditionally a Roman (and then Roman Catholic) holiday, modern-day Italians celebrate by taking a few days off—in fact, many Italians just take the whole month of August off (I knew I loved those italians for some reason, other than my heritage).

Unplug from your computer and take a few days off to celebrate Ferragosto!

Be green this weekend!
